2019 BREED ASSIGNMENTS FOR HALTER DIVISIONS A, B, C, E, F, H, I, K, O, R & U Traditional/Classic/Mini – OF, CM, AR
This list is NOT to be used on any Micro Division
These are suggested guidelines for Entrants (and Judges) to assist you in determining the correct class to enter your horse in. Please, if you wish to show a breed not on the list, contact Betty to ask which class the breed in question should be in. When contacting Betty, you must include a link to a website that shows the breed requirements and colors.
COLOR ASSOCIATION or REGISTRIES -- THESE ARE NOT BREEDS
Below is a list of Color Associations or Registries that are NOT a Breed, but incorporate all different Breeds. If your horse falls into one of the color registries or associations and is not a recognized purebred, this horse should be shown in the Mixed/Grade Class for their build type.
American Buckskin Horse International Spotted Horse Registry ISHR
American Palomino Horse Palomino Horse
American White Horse and American Crème Horse PtHA - Pinto Horse Association of America
International Buckskin Association
If the horse you are showing is a Purebred horse (for example, an American QH, that is a Palomino) whose color also makes it eligible for registration in one of the Color Registries above, you MUST show that horse in the Quarter Horse class (purebred class). If your horse is a horse of unknown breeding, or a ¼ , ½ or any combination of mixed breeds, whether known or unknown you would show this horse in the Mixed/Grade class for their build type. For Paint/Pinto Color Classes – Horses with 5% or less white MAY show in their solid base color class.
For Example, your AQHA Mare is also registered as a Palomino, you would show her in the Quarter Horse Class, and would list her as a Palomino Quarter Horse. Palomino would describe her color and Quarter Horse would describe her breed. If you simply list your horse’s breed as a Palomino, it will be DQ’d as it is NOT a Breed.
NOTE: In mixed/grade breed classes – breeds are not required for GRADE horses only (You must list the horse as Grade). You MUST list the breed crosses for all other mixed breeds entered in these classes.

* TOPSA recognizes that “some” get of crosses such as TB/QH, TB/Paint, TB/App produce offspring that are built more along the lines of the lighter breed. In acknowledgement of this, IF you have a model that you show that would fall into the Quarter Horse, Paint, or Appaloosa Breed class that is a cross of one of those 3 breeds and another breed that is approved/recognized by those associations, that you feel would show better as a “Sport Horse” you may show that model in the Sport Horse Class (remember that you do have to state which Sport Horse Registry the horse is registered with). IF you choose to show the model as a Sport Horse, then you may NOT show it in the QH, Paint or Appaloosa Breed class.

21. WARMBLOOD Stallions
(Must list the REGISTRY that they fall under, i.e.: American, Dutch, German, Hanoverian, etc.)
A warmblood is a pure bred horse that has been established as a pure breed for 5 plus (usually 10+) generations. It takes 5 generations to start breeding a true "purebred". A purebred has a definite breed standard and have to go through an approval process to become able to continue the breed - meaning, a faulty mare cannot become a broodmare - it is an inspection process. They are approved or denied at a certain age (depends on the breed). Here is a better link to help you understand: http://sonestafarms.com/wbinfo.htm
The exception to this rule is the "American Warmblood" which can have any two PUREBRED parents (TB's are NOT considered a warmblood but are very commonly used as one parent in the American Warmblood registries). There ARE American Specialty Warmbloods - such as the American Hanoverian Society, etc. They are the American Versions of the European standards and are tested just as the European Counterparts. But the “American Warmblood” does not have the 5 generation breeding standard of the European warmblood societies, although they DO have an approval AND inspection process.
PLEASE NOTE: There is a REGISTERED IRISH DRAUGHT horse (also known as RID) which is shown in Class 21 or 22 – but there is ALSO an Irish Draught SPORT HORSE which shows in class 23 or 24. They are NOT the same as the Sporthorse is not a pure bred horse.

Sporthorses are NOT purebreds, A Sporthorse is a part bred horse that usually has a warmblood or a purebred as one parent, but can be ANYTHING on it's other side. Any horse showing in the Sport Horse Classes (23 & 24) MUST name the sport horse association it is registered under. Otherwise it shows in class 26. Mixed/Grade Light Breeds. Sport horses must list at least one parent and this parent MUST be a purebred horse (WB or TB typically).

These are suggested guidelines for Entrants (and Judges) to assist you in determining the correct class to enter your horse in.
